Specialisation:Information Security (policies and standards - non-technical, including human aspects such as staff awareness, education and training), ISO 17799/BS7799 including preparation for formal registration, Data Protection (including staff awareness, education and training), Business Continuity Planning. As Head of Information Security at The Co-operative Bank plc from 1990, reporting at Director level, Martin introduced Information Security policies and standards for the first time, including staff awareness training for 4,500 staff. He assumed responsibility for Data Protection Act compliance in 1994, and helped formulate the British Bankers’ Association industry position and commentary on the 1998 UK legislation.
Additional Info:Martin also acted as Insurance Risk Manager, liaising with brokers in the London insurance market. Experience includes Bankers’ Blanket Bond, Electronic & Computer Crime, and Material Damage/Business Interruption, including a full Business Interruption review. He assumed responsibility for the Business Continuity Planning framework, including policies and standards, and overview of testing. This framework proved its worth in the Manchester bombing of 1996. Worked full time for 10 months on the project to deliver the Smile internet bank, with responsibility in the Project for all aspects of legislative and regulatory compliance, and achieved registration to BS7799(2) for Smile, the first internet bank in the world to achieve this.
